Biography
• Kiara Michelle Richardson-Summerton was born September 4, 1980 in Houston, Texas (River Oaks neighborhood), and is 29 years old.
• She is the oldest of two - she has a younger sister who is twenty four and lives in Houston with her four year old son, Alex.
• Kiara is from a wealthy and large family in Texas. Her father is a surgeon and her mother is a lawyer, and most of her relatives have been successful in some regards. However, she rarely discusses her wealth or stature, having worked for everything she has, a character trait instilled in her by her parents.
• She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology in Dallas, Texas, and then moved on to complete her PhD in Clinical Psychology in four years at Boston University in Boston, Massachussetts. She graduated in May 2007.
• Is a big fan of art, having once worked in a major art gallery in Dallas. She herself paints and is also a big fan of photography and dance. As a child, she had aspirations of becoming a dancer, briefly, before a torn ACL ended her dream. She competed on the dance team as an undergraduate in college.
• Once was somewhat of a party girl, early on in her years at school through her sorority in Dallas. She eventually calmed down and focused on obtaining her degree, but still to this day enjoys going out and meeting new faces.
• She loves to travel, and has been all over Europe. Her favorite cities include Geneva (a place she first visited with her husband, Lukas), Rome, Paris, and Milan. The cities she most wants to visit include Dubai and Tokyo.
• Is not a fan of most current music, but instead prefers old soul music and jazz.
• Her cousin and best friend is a fashion designer in New York, and she lived with her when she first moved to NYC. Most of what Kiara knows about fashion she attributes to her cousin.
• Kiara is athletic, and enjoys running. Her goal is to someday run the New York and Boston Marathons.
• Loves to cook, but isn't very good at it. She loves to try, though! Her good friend and college roommate, Audrey, taught her most of what she knows about cooking. More often than not she'll just wait until Lukas makes something.
• Her first job after graduation was as a clinical psychologist at a private office on Wall Street, which she prefers to a hospital or clinic. She is not specialized, which means she can see a wide variety of clients. However, she once worked on a research project involving children with her ex-boyfriend, Laurent Markell, and is interested in maybe doing more work with them.
• Moved to Los Angeles to accept a bigger, more research-oriented job that was very different than the one she had in New York. When Lukas said he wanted to move back to New York for his career, Kiara was only too happy to follow. She managed to get her old job back in a private office on Wall Street in Manhattan, and used her powers of persuasion to even get herself a raise.
• Kiara loves shoes, and unless she is running, she will more than likely be seen in some stilettos. She wants to convert an entire room in her house into a shoe closet.
• Did not have a serious boyfriend for nearly five years after breaking up with the (then) love of her life in college. She focused more on getting her PhD than developing anything serious romantically, and instead dated around.
• Bought a townhome with her boyfriend, Lukas, in the West Village neighborhood of NYC before accepting her position in LA. This was the first time she had ever lived with a man before, and it was a huge step for her. Currently, they reside in the brownstone Lukas owns in Brooklyn. Kiara was never much of a fan of Brooklyn, but made the concession to living there to Lukas since he loved it there so much.
• Became engaged to her boyfriend Lukas after a trip to Las Vegas in September 2008. They set the date of April 18, 2009, in New York City, where all of their families could be present. They eloped on December 24, 2008, in Geneva, with just Lukas' grandparents present. They only told a few people about their elopement. After their wedding, Kiara changed her last name to Summerton, although professionally she goes by Richardson-Summerton.
• Gave birth to her first child, Madeleine Olivia Summerton, on March 16, 2010.
